Arming sword KNIGHT
Arming sword is type of one-handed sword, which is transition piece between carolings, better known as the «Viking sword» and the swords of high middle ages. Arming sword became longer and with less wide blade, and especcialy tip, compared to caroling, and comfortable for not only for strikes, but on thrusts too. Сross functional and simple shape of crossguard let use arming sword in different situations as main or additional weapon for cavalry or dismounted battles during war and as decorative or duty weapon in peace time. After a while arming sword develops in two ways of weapon
- Military sword became longer, heavier, more comfortable for horse battle and transforms into knight’s longsword.
- Civil sword became less wide and more light, receive additional hand and finger protection and transforms into side – sword.
In modern armoured duel fencing arming sword is most often used with a buckler or a big shield. In most of armoured sport rules, thrusts are forbidded, so sword is optimized for armoured “knight” duels – with round tip and hard non-flexible blade, which is not safe for thrusts. Arming sword “Knight” is a modern stylization of the XIV-s century arming swords for historica fencing and armored fighting practice and competitions.
