Fioretto
Fioretto is a light, flexible 19th-century training rapier designed for sparring. Unlike the smarra, with its heavy, rigid blade used against the coach’s chest pad during lessons, the fioretto was built for control, speed, and precision.

In the Italian grip, every detail matters:
• the index finger wraps around the ricasso and rests against the guard for extra control;
• the middle finger passes through the quillon;
• the space between the guard and the quillons should fit two gloved fingers snugly;
• the pommel is not made round, as the weapon was historically secured to the hand with a strap or cord.
These details are what make the Italian fioretto more than just a weapon. It is a carefully designed system for precise blade control.
