The GDF Club Rapier is an affordable, safe, and comfortable training rapier for HEMA and SCA Renaissance Rapier categories.
The rapier is a broad term covering many types of bladed weapons from the 15th to the 17th century.
Early rapiers were still close to longswords with more developed guards, but over time they became lighter, narrower, and faster, eventually evolving into smallswords. Unlike the side-sword, even an early rapier is built more for the thrust than for the cut. That is what defines its character: a longer blade, a different balance, and a hilt designed for precise control.
In modern HEMA tournaments, the rapier is usually used in two main categories: single rapier, without a weapon in the off hand, and rapier and dagger, where a fencing dagger is held in the left hand. There is also a rapier and buckler category, although the side-sword is more commonly used with a shield.
This model was developed in collaboration with experienced fencers from the Guild of Duel Fencing. It was designed as a practical club rapier: light, affordable, reliable, and safe enough for regular training.
The cup hilt provides excellent hand protection, so this rapier can be used not only with reinforced gloves, but also with lighter, non-armoured gloves.
